On DisplayKveta Deans
Kveta Deans is an Honours graduate of Adelaide Central School of Art. She has won a number of awards and been a finalist in several national competitions, including the Dobell Prize for Drawing. Kveta’s paintings and drawings are inspired by the strange and emotive world of the female figure under the water. They are concerned with ideas of beauty, the feminine and sensual immersion. Her images evoke notions of abandon and drowning in a world moving with broken light. Kveta is a member of TwinBEE Studios in St Peters and is represented by Hill-Smith Gallery in Adelaide. Artwork indicative only I was born in 1957 and grew up at Port Noarlunga, south of Adelaide. I have been making and drawing for as long as I can remember, it seems to be the way I deal with the world aroundme. This has led to a career in the broader visual arts that incorporates painting, drawing, jewellerymaking, public art, illustration and a fifteen year period of producing designs for the surf wear company, Mambo. I have exhibited my work internationally and my work is held in a number of public collections. This display accompanies the launch of the tenth SALA monograph, written by that champion of tinkerers, Mark Thomson.
